THE FAMILY of a teenager fighting for his life after a fracas in a Hampshire village were today keeping a bedside vigil.
The 17-year-old was taken to South-ampton General Hospital following the trouble in the grounds of West End Youth Club.
Today the youth, thought to live in the area, remained unconscious and "critical" in the intensive care unit.
Detectives cordoned off the scene following reports of the incident which happened in daylight at 7.45pm on Wednesday.
Police believe the fight was witnessed by up to 20 youths outside the Moorgreen Road club, which was holding a night for younger members.
This morning they were continuing to quiz a 17-year-old male at Eastleigh police station who was arrested soon after.
Acting Det Insp Phil Jones told the Daily Echo: "The youth is still critically ill in a serious condition. He's still unconscious.
"The suspect is still with us at Eastleigh. We've now concluded our examinations of the scene.''
He added: "At this stage we believe there was only the one person who struck the victim but there were around 20 other youths in the immediate vicinity. We're hoping some of them will come forward.''
Anyone who can help should contact Acting Det Insp Phil Jones at Eastleigh CID on 0845 045 45 45.
