BASINGSTOKE NeighbourCare is looking for volunteers so it can continue to expand its transport services.
Volunteers use their own cars to transport vulnerable people who are not able to use public transport on errands, such as doctor or hospital appointments, collecting prescriptions, shopping and pensions.
Manager Kay Elliott said: "We offer help to anyone in need, young or old, able or disabled. The more volunteers we get, the more help we can give around the borough. They can give as much or as little time as they want to.
"We are growing with the amount of work we have been doing in the last three years. At the moment, we would like to reach out and help people in Sherborne St John, who haven't got a Neighbour-Care group."
Volunteers are paid 36p per mile for their travelling expenses and get the satisfaction of knowing they are helping the community.
Alan Higgs, 54, from South View, Basingstoke, has been a volunteer for three years.
Alan, who enjoys a good chat with his clients, said: "It's an enjoyable experience. It's not boring as most people are lovely and very interesting."
"When you see the problems people have getting to the doctors and hospital in some areas, it's nice to help. It's a good feeling knowing you have helped other people."
Jean Chalwin, 82, from Quilter Road, Brighton Hill, Basingstoke, uses the service and thinks it is marvellous.
She said: "Having done voluntary work myself for the Royal British Legion, I admire people that can turn out and help others.
"There are so many people who have got a car that sits in the garage all day. Why don't they put it to good use?"
Anyone who would like to volunteer their services should call 01256 332424.
