ONE hundred and twenty-five teams contested a two-day youth six-a-side football tournament run by Oakley FC where Hatch Warren carried off two age-group trophies.

North-West Hampshire MP Sir George Young, the Oakley club president, presented some of the trophies on the first day at the Peter Houseman Playing Field.

During the two days, 644 goals were scored by the 900 players taking part.

The 10 trophy winners were: Old Isleworthians (under-seven), AFC Newbury (under-eight), AFC Newbury (under-nine), Hatch Warren (under-10), Basing Rovers (under-11), Hatch Warren (under-12), Calleva (under-13), Thatcham (under-14), Berg (under-15), Sherborne (under-16).

Sir George was invited as a guest to last year's tournament by Richard Wood, one of the Oakley managers, and then agreed to become club president.

"We invited him to our tournament last year and were really surprised that he turned up," said Wood. "He stayed for over an hour and appeared to be genuinely interested.

"It must make a change from all those church fetes and Conservative Party suppers. We thought it wouldn't hurt to ask him if he would be president of the club and he agreed."
