Top multihull racing came to Southampton Water when Netley Sailing Club hosted the Dart 18 UK National Championships over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The fleet was very competitive, with over 70 entries from all over the country, including six previous European or World title winners. The three-day competition comprised nine races, with conditions varying from almost calm to Force 5.
David and Sam Lloyd, from Stokes Bay Sailing Club took the title. David had previously finished fifth, fourth, third and second, but finally received the trophy at his seventh attempt. Lawrie Draper and Estelle Dervile, also from Stokes Bay, took fifth place.
All the competitors voted Netley SC a favourite venue - not only for the good food and beer but also for organising their massive army of helpers to pull boats up after a hard day's racing.
The professional race management team provided challenging racing, often in difficult conditions, and the long start lines certainly helped to keep general recalls to a minimum.
