FRESH from their performance at the Queen's Jubilee celebrations last year, one of the most successful tribute bands ever appears for one night only at the Anvil, Basingstoke tomorrow night.

The Bootleg Beatles formed in the early 80s from the Broadway show Beatlemania, originally intending to play colleges, social clubs and other small venues until their novelty value wore off.

The popularity of the band slowly grew, however, eventually leading to a 60-date tour of the Soviet Union and a string of gigs from the US to the Far East. It seemed there was a large global market for the Beatles played live.

In Britain, the faux-Fab Four remained relatively unknown. It was only after a gig at Southampton Guildhall in 1991 - where the band caught the attention of Oasis - that the Bootleg Beatles became household names in the UK. What followed was a series of dates supporting the Manchester band at Earl's Court, granting them a certain street cred which allowed the group further career opportunities.

Since then, the foursome have found themselves sharing the stage with the likes of Rod Stewart, Bon Jovi, David Bowie and The Corrs.

Join the Bootleg Beatles, plus a string and brass ensemble for a poptastic celebration of Liverpool's most famous export.

Tomorrow. Performance: 7.30pm. Tickets: £17.50. Box office: 01256 844244
