A BOARD silly skate fan has rolled into the record books with the world's longest skateboard in a bid to get a park built for his favourite sport.

Today 16-year-old Joel Spaven's 7.2m - 23ft 7in - long creation smashed the previous world record of 6.17m set last year in California.

The giant board - 12in in width - was propelled down High Street in Bishops Waltham by local skater Jai Gomer, 28, because Joel is too young for a Guinness record book entry.

"It went very well,'' he said. "We got up at about 4.45am and we were down there at 5.45am. We had a lot of runs in front of the cameras and went down the High Street. Even some members of the Rotary Club and three police officers went on it!''

The Swanmore Secondary School pupil has waged a one-man war against council chiefs who are refusing to build a skate park in Bishops Waltham.

Joel said: "What is the point of having the world's longest skateboard if you haven't got a skatepark?''
