WHAT better way can there be to celebrate 75 years of am dram than with a brilliant musical performed by an award-winning cast?
Southampton Musical Society are doing just that as they bring the Gershwin classic Crazy for You to the Nuffield from Tuesday.
The cream of local musical talent takes centre stage with no less than six Daily Echo Curtain Call Award-winners in this show that tells the story of rich kid Bobby Child, desperate to break free from his family's banking business and indulge in his love of theatre.
The opportunity comes when he is sent to Nevada to foreclose on a bankrupt theatre. Not only does Bobby get caught up in saving the theatre, but he also falls in love with local girl Polly Baker, played by namesake Natalie Baker. But just as live theatre has its hiccups, so does love as elaborate plans to get his girl backfire in true Gershwin style.
Wayne Ings, who scooped Best Actor in a Musical at this year's Curtain Call awards takes up the title role of Bobby Child. He is joined by joint award-winner Iain Steel, along with other winners - Soraya Schrivener, Annmarie Hawkins, Monica Charlesworth and George Tinsley.
Tuesday until Saturday June 14. Performances: 7.30pm nightly with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee. Tickets: from £10. Box office: 023 8067 1771
