The International 14 dinghy - revered, addictive, a sensational performer and thrill satisfier.
This weekend sees the annual Prince Of Wales Trophy and European Championships being held at Hayling Island Sailing Club.
Hot favourites for the trophy include the versatile asymmetric sailor Zeb Elliot competing with the Commodore of Hayling Island SC, Tim Hancock.
There are two recent designs which are vying for the podium position.
The Beiker 4, which is built by Ovington Boats, should see some eight hulls on the water this coming week. Long term International 14 sailor Victor Brellisford is sporting one of these as is Hampshire old hand Geoff Carveth.
Small modifications have been made to the hull design and, with a flatter rocker and slightly wider aft, the boat has been holding her own.
Meanwhile, the Morrison 11, which comes from the Richard Woofe stable at RMW Marine, is about equal in the performance stakes.
Southampton's Rob Greenhalgh, who cut his teeth on asymmetric dinghies, will be back to vie for the silverware.
After the classic International 14s compete this Sunday, the way will be paved for those 'take no prisoners' twin-wire skiffs.
Tuesday will see the ultimate in International 14 competition, the Prince of Wales Trophy.
