WINTON ward borough councillor and chairman of the civic protection partnership Cllr Marion Kerley has called on new borough councillors to join the campaign to save Andover golf club from development.
She said: "We need to bring the fight to save the club to the attention of the new councillors who have just been elected to the borough.
"There is a need to retain the golf club as a community facility for the people of Andover.
"What we would like to do is invite the councillors up to see the facilities for children. The golf club keeps them off the streets and gives them activities and competition. "Testway Sevens activities in town have been provided to keep children busy during the summer.
"In the time they were running last summer the police and fire service received no hoax calls or false alarms.
"I believe that if we provide enough activities for young people to keep them busy we wouldn't have the level of crime we have.
"Taking away the golf course would be a detrimental step, and the need to fight for our golf course is vital for our community.
"The golf course is a safe place for parents to know their children are going."
