WENDY LINE will come face to face with her former Southampton Women teammates in the English Women's BA Top Club competition this weekend.

After 25 years playing at Southampton Sports Centre, Line switched her outdoor allegiance to Atherley this season - and now the clubs lock horns on Sunday at Hill Lane (10am) in the third Hampshire round.

Line was in fine form as Atherley sank Waterside 4-0 in round two. She combined with Ann Clarkson, Jean Terrell and Joan Penfold to win the fours 42-9 against Pat Mills, Mona Holden, Doreen Parr and Rita Wye.

Former Waterside bowler Jean Arnaud took the singles 21-12 against Phoebe Gibbons while Anne Pearce and Helen Phillips scored a 26-17 pairs' triumph against Mary Clark and Gill Dando.

Gill Hayes, Pat Rowe and Marion Collins finished 24-14 up in the triples against Val Harnett, Judy Winterburn and Joan Trueman.

Mayfield Park fought with great determination to cause an upset before finally bowing out 2-1 to Southampton Women. With two disciplines decided by a single shot and another drawn, the match was won for Southampton by the pair of Jean Seymour and Christine Lee, who beat Cramer and Jean Ford 28-12.

A tight singles tussle stood at 20-19 to Mayfield's Josie Havinga until Susan Barnes scored two shots to snatch the verdict for Southampton. However, the triples went the other way with Doreen Pollard, Yvonne Bott and Barbara Andrews of Mayfield pipping Jenny Loftus, Doreen Yielding and Betty Jacob 21-20.

The fours finished all square on 18 apiece between Southampton's Anita Knight, Jan Yeo, Fay Buckingham and Mella Longland against Mesdames Lake, Wheeler, Hadley and Parker.

Hampshire third-round draw: (ties to be played this weekend) Fareham v Bridgemary, Cosham v Crofton, Hyde Abbey v Banister Park, Atherley v Southampton Sports Centre Women, Oakley or Kingsclere v Hook, Yateley v Pyestock, New Milton v Richmond Park, Ringwood v Braeside.
