Hampshire's second team kicked off their 50-over campaign with an excellent five-wicket win over Glamorgan at The Rose Bowl.
The young Hawks, beaten finalists in last season's one-day competition, owed their victory to a fabulous unbeaten hundred from Greg Lamb, who saw his side home with three overs to spare.
Lamb - a 22-year-old who was brought up in Zimbabwe but has spent the last two years living in England - is on trial at The Rose Bowl and would have impressed the coaching staff with his near run-a-ball innings.
Chasing 235 for victory, Hampshire were in a spot of bother as James Hamblin, Dominic Clapp and Lawrence Prittipaul were all back in the hutch with the score on 42, as Owen Parkin and Andrew Davies used the new ball effectively for Glamorgan.
But Lamb put together an excellently-paced knock, which included 18 fours and a six, timing the ball well off his legs and hitting the ball firmly down the ground.
He was joined in two good partnerships, firstly by Iain Brunnschweiler (36), and then James Hibberd (34no), who both batted sensibly as Lamb took control.
Earlier in the day, James Bruce once again used the new ball well and picked up two wickets, while the experience of Hamblin (2-49) and Prittipaul (3-33) hauled back the men from Wales as they looked to post a large total.
This was the first group match of six for Hampshire in the competition, with the top side progressing to the knock-out stages.
