Penton 160-9 beat Liss 63 Penton II beat Tichborne Park III
It was a long time coming, but Rob Rasey finally led Penton to their first league win since he took over, writes Mike Wells.
Batting first, Roy Burch (23) and Wayne Green (25) got the innings under way with a 44 partnership, but four wickets in as many overs from Chris Allcock (4-55) left Penton at 59-4. Asghar Ali (18), Mick Vince (21) and John Carpenter (26*) bolstered the total, allowing Ian Warburton (17) to swing the bat at the end. Richard Pleace (jr) took 4-16.
Rasey (4-16) and Burch (1-25) had the hosts reeling on 44-5, and Mick Vince (3-13) and Ali (2-5) mopped up the tail in quick time with Liss all out for 63. Good fielding and a couple of sharp catches backed up an excellent bowling performance.
The seconds won a one-sided game, as 15-year-old Dan Stratton (40*) was the only visiting batsman to show any resistance. Trevor Plaskett (3-11) and Keith Truscott (3-26) were the main wicket takers, while John Hunter (33), Dave Lester (23) and Truscott (17*) knocked the runs off.
On Sunday Penton lost to Dogmersfield in the village knockout. Mick Vince (24) and Keith Truscott (34) helped the innings with Eddie Smith (3-23) taking a hat trick. Dogmersfield eased past their target, losing only one wicket.
