Andover & District Netball Association's new summer league has begun, despite the recent rain.
The league trains umpires so they will be qualified for the winter season, and is being run almost the same as the winter league with the exception of registration. Once a player is registered she can play for any team. Thirteen teams entered and everyone who took part seemed to enjoy it, even some of the new umpires!
The summer league runs from 6.45pm to 9pm every Friday at John Hanson School until 8 August. Spectators and new players are always welcome.
On 18 May the league held its end of season tournament. Each player picked a team name on arrival, and played out of their usual positions; it was good for the lower division players to see the standard of the first division at close quarters.
It was a round robin tournament with each match lasting 16 minutes, and everyone who took part enjoyed themselves and thanked the committee for a fun day.
In the flower-themed tournament, the winners were the begonias team of Nickie Stickley, Janet Wray, Sally Jones, Hayley Bradford, Paula Burgess, Judy Palmer & Chris Hewick. Special thanks must also go to the brave umpires who gave up their time in grotty weather free of charge.
There are several teams who will be looking for sponsorship for the coming winter season. Any potential sponsors are very welcome if they need more information to contact the committee via Andover Leisure Centre.
l Andover & District Netball Association's AGM is being held on 5 June at 6.30pm at Andover Church of England School, East Street, Andover.
Any new teams wishing to enter are very welcome but for more information please contact the Committee via ALC, who will give out telephone numbers on request.
