Fencing contractor Reg Clough, pictured, struck lucky to collect over £300 in prize money in the Wessex Spring Open at Cogden.
Clough, from East Woodyeates, was far from happy when he drew peg one because it meant a mile trek along the shingle.
But, after using white rag to tempt 16 doggies weighing 20lb 14oz to beat a star-studded field, he was left grinning from ear to ear.
With the action pretty good, England international Ian Golds from Portsmouth was runner-up from peg four with eight doggies weighing 11lb 4.50oz, again caught on white rag, followed by Rob Marshall, with 11lb 2oz from peg two, and Julian Shambrook, with 9lb 5oz from peg three.
Dogfish dominated during the event which saw 75 competitors in action - although the heaviest fish was a 3lb 3oz smoothhound bagged by Dave Ridout, a machine operator from Poole.
The pool for the heaviest flatfish was collected by Mike Taylor from Southampton with a small dab.
Most of the top weights came from the fancied A section and the action was not so good in the other two sections with John Van Crugten winning B section, with 8lb 6.50oz followed by Tim Green (8lb 5.50oz), Eddie Painter (6lb 10oz) and Andy Parkhill from Fareham (6lb 3.50oz).
The final section was won by yours truly, Chris Clark from Lymington, with 5lb 4.50oz, just two ounces ahead of Simon Barber from Wessex Angling Centre who organised the event.
Paul Johnson and Nick Wood weighed in 4lb 2.50oz and 3lb 15oz respectively.
