AFC Aldermaston are the second team of a club which enjoys Hampshire League premier division status and many of their players have had experience at county level.
Like their first team, Aldermaston play at the RecSoc Ground at AWE and they finished sixth this season in the Basingstoke and District Saturday League.
The Aldermaston first team won the local league in 1989-90 on their way up the local football pyramid, stepping off in the North Hants League on the way to the Hampshire set-up.
This season, Aldermaston manager Graham Johnson guided them to the Peter Raynbird Cup final, where they lost in extra time to Oakridge West in April at the Camrose.
Aldermaston beat their own A team 3-2, Tadley A 4-0, Water End 5-1 and then New Inn in the semi-finals 2-0.
In the final, Aldermaston started the better with Steve Rose and Dave Bridge going close before Ian Cadman and Graham Hill also tested the Oakridge defence in a goalless first half.
After 52 minutes, Aldermaston broke the deadlock as Simon Betts found Vasili Stefanopoulos in the six-yard area and he scored.
Oakridge equalised to send the game into extra time and then they scored the winner to leave Aldermaston to collect the runners-up medals.
AFC Aldermaston A, the third team at the club, did bring home some silverware to the club this season as they retained the Saturday League's Supplementary B Cup after beating Overton United A 2-1 last month.
