Gordon Strachan has insisted he doesn't expect to sell any of his star names this summer.

The Saints boss has seen some of his top talent linked with moves to clubs all over Europe since the end of the season but sees no reason that any of them should leave.

James Beattie, Wayne Bridge and Antti Niemi have been at the front of the speculation queue.

But all have recently pledged their commitment to Saints and the UEFA Cup campaign they will embark on next season and that's good enough for Strachan.

He said: "There has not been a offer for any of our players, and I don't expect any.

"I really do not think there is big money out there, and in any case this club is in a position where we do not have to sell any of our top players.

"Top players will be constantly linked with a move away from clubs like Southampton and it is just coincidence that the two players who are always being talked about, Beattie and Bridge, happen to be in the England squad at the same time."

Both Strachan and chairman Rupert Lowe have gone on record in the Daily Echo in the last few weeks as saying there is no need to sell any player who wants to stay at the club and is wanted by the club.

The aim for both chairman and manager is to add to the playing staff to try and build on this season's achievements when the new campaign kicks off again in August.

Strachan added: "Everyone is playing games and guessing who might go where.

"Having reached the FA Cup final, finished eighth in the Premiership and playing in Europe next season obviously some of our players are going to be talked about.

"We have been projected more, so it is up to everyone to handle that.

"I will only take notice of any speculation if one of my players comes up to me and tells me he wants to move.

"I am sure that is not going to happen, and all of the players we currently have will be back here for pre-season training in July, no doubt about that."

l Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has revealed he wants to sign Teddy Sheringham following the Fratton Park club's promotion to the Barclaycard Premiership.

But the Pompey boss has ruled out trying to take Manchester City midfielder Eyal Berkovic or Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips to the south coast.

Former England striker Sheringham has not been offered a new contract at Tottenham but, despite being 37, is expected to attract plenty of offers this summer.

"I like Teddy. He's been a great player and he may be open to a deal,"Redknapp told the BBC Sport website.

"I'm sure he wants to continue playing and is still a top player in my opinion.

"I've spoken with his agent but my chairman has been out of the country and is not back yet.

"I've got to sit down and have a chat with him and see where we are going with players, see if there is any money at all and see what we can afford to pay.

"Hopefully we can come up with some offers I can make to a few players."
