OVERTON business Assoc-iation's campaign to bring broadband to the village is gaining ground with only 60 more registrations needed to activate the trigger level.
Their efforts were recognised by two cyclists who visited the village as part of a 1,000km cycle ride to raise money to provide telecommunications equipment for poor communities in the developing world.
BT is sponsoring Gerry Davies and Rupert Taylor as they cycle in aid of Intermediate Technology Development Group and are visiting areas already enabled with BT broadband or those campaigning to bring the facility to the community.
The pair stopped outside Overton Library to offer their support to the village, which has reached 76 per cent of its 250 trigger level.
Once the level is reached, BT will start the exchange-enabling process.
Steve Robarts, who lives and owns a business in the village, said: "BT is delivering a leaflet to all homes and businesses in the exchange area this week and we hope that will provide the necessary impetus to drive the registrations needed to reach the trigger level."
