SCHOOLS across the city have teamed up with the University of Southamp-ton's School of Medicine to show pupils that not only can science be fun, it can also lead to a variety of careers.
St Anne's, Testwood, Woodlands and Bellemoor schools are involved with the scheme.
As well as looking at careers, the sessions focus on a science topic the children have recently been studying, with interactive discussions and demonstrations, as well as competitions. Each pupil is also given an information pack.
The first Science to Health sessions took place at St Anne's School, Southampton, where the girls looked at diet and nutrition with the help of some helium balloons.
Later they looked at careers studying science subjects can lead to, including nursing, physiotherapy and medicine. University students were on hand to chat to the class about higher education.
Using their knowledge of diet and nutrition, pupils designed a fantasy menu for Posh and Becks and
their children Brooklyn and Romeo. The best ideas will win HMV vouchers.
Project leader Sally Curtis said: "The aim of the sessions is to heighten awareness of the health care
professions, and the importance
of science as the basis for these careers.
"So far the feedback from pupils has been really good and we are looking forward to visiting the other schools."
