KEEN RUNNERS in Hampshire will be limbering up for this year's Race for Hope.
Entries are now being taken for the second annual Race for Hope in support of the Southampton based medical research charity Hope.
It is expected that more than 250 runners will pound the five-mile course around Winchester's city centre streets in July.
A two-kilometre fun run will also be held at the same time within Winchester's River Park.
Hope's Hiliary Lancaster said: "Hope is the south's leading medical research charity, and the races are raising funds for their Hope for Healthy Babies £1m appeal.
"It includes the search for an effective vaccine against meningitis B.
"Whilst there is no immunisation available for the C strain of this disease, the more complex B strain remains as dangerous as ever.
"Hope for Healthy Babies appeal also supports studies into many aspects of child health. Current studies include research into infant asthma and allergies, childhood cancer, congenital heart disease, cerebral palsy, bone growth, spina bifida and intestinal conditions."
This year Race for Hope on July 6, welcomes Waitrose in Oakmount Road, Chandler's Ford as title supporters for the event which is organised jointly by Hope for Winchester and Winchester and District Athletic Club.
Medals are awarded to all runners and there are prizes in different categories for road runners, including a new Business Trophy for teams.
Fancy dress is always optional.
Entry forms and further details can be downloaded from Hope's website at www.hope.org.uk/events.htm or by phoning Hilary on 023 8033 3366.
