Durham's injury jinx continued as they lost Martin Love for at least three weeks on the way to a 143-run defeat by Lancashire in the C&G Trophy at Chester-le-Street.
Love, whose season was ended by a broken finger on June 12 last season, broke his right thumb in the field and was unable to bat as Durham were shot out for 86.
One of the matches he will miss is Durham's Championship trip to The Rose Bowl next week.
Three wickets each for Jimmy Anderson and Peter Martin reduced Durham to 26 for six in reply to 229 for nine, and only Nicky Peng's 44 prevented deeper embarrassment.
While Durham's injury woes deepened - they are already without Paul Collingwood for more than half the season - Lancashire handed a surprise recall to Andrew Flintoff.
He was not expected to bowl because of his shoulder injury, but blasted 31 off 29 balls before skying an attempted pull to wicketkeeper Phil Mustard.
Durham sent regular keeper Andrew Pratt with Danny Love and Michael Gough in search of form in a four-day second team match at Blackpool.
But it proved a tough baptism for Mustard on his senior one-day debut as he was sent in to open and was out first ball.
Former England Under 19 all-rounder Ian Pattison also failed to make an impression.
