Fareham Nomads swimmers had excellent results in the Bracknell Open Meet last weekend.

Men's club captain Chris Walker made club history by becoming the first swimmer to go under two minutes for the 200m freestyle in a 50m pool. His time of 1.59.53min was also inside the national qualifying mark and good enough to win the gold medal swimming against a very strong field.

Walker followed up with a fine performance in the 400m freestyle of 4.12.02 for gold and another national time. He was also second in the 100m freestyle in a time of 55.65 - another personal best.

At the younger end of the scale 12-year-old Jamie O'Donnell also set national figures in the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley with times of 3.00.11 and 2.40.51 (fifth and second). The promising youngster followed up with fourth place in the 200m backstroke and 100m breaststroke.

Peter Hall had the busiest weekend of the club swimmers, competing in 11 events and returning with one gold (200m individual medley) and three silver medals for the 200m backstroke, 100m backstroke (national time of 1.02.89) and 400m freestyle.

Jo Corben (second 200m backstroke, 2.23.23) produced an excellent warm-up swim before the 32-year-old defends her titles at the British Masters Championships in Cardiff in June. Husband Tony won bronze in the 200m butterfly.

Elizabeth Freemantle, Sarah Warrener, Edward Askham-Spencer Oliver-James Wright, Daniel Crook and Rachel Jepson also made final appearances.

At the recent district Championship, the youths 4x200m freestyle team of Chris Walker, Edward Askham-Spencer, Peter Hall and Nick Barber recorded a club best time of 8.15 for the bronze medal, hopefully fast enough to gain entry into the national championships.
