ALL creatures great and small kept thousands entertained at the 9th Hampshire Country Show at Broadlands.

Families from across the south descended on Romsey for the two-day extravaganza over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Wolves, dogs, horses, sheep, snakes and birds of prey were included in this year's line-up, with numerous demonstrations and arena events to keep spectators happy.

Highlights included mounted games, lurcher and terrier shows, dog agility displays, falconry, fly-fishing, steam engines and show-jumping, while puppet shows were laid on for younger visitors.

There was also an opportunity for youngsters and their parents to pet ferrets.

Show organisers estimated that 16,000 people from across Hampshire would attend the two-day event.

Blazing bank holiday sunshine helped to boost yesterday's attendance at the show to 10,000.

Organiser Mark Hume said: "We are quite happy. The show is well established and keeps growing every year."

He added: "We had the same number of people attend last year but the show was spread over three days and it was the Queen's Golden Jubilee. This year, we have the same attendance over two days."
