Hampshire's biggest motor racing event of the year, the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship event at Thruxton, was dominated yesterday by the Frenchman Yvan Muller in a Vauxhall Astra Coupe.

Muller won both races after a titanic battle with the Honda Civic of Matt Neal and it capped a great day for Hampshire racing legend Derek Warwick, one of the leading lights in forming the Triple Eight Racing Engineering team who run the Vauxhalls.

Honda are the only team threatening Vauxhall's tight hold on the BTCC and Muller's double increased his lead at the top of the divers' championship and extended Vauxhall's lead in the constructors table.

Most disappointed driver at Thruxton was Hampshire's Rob Collard who crashed out on the first lap leaving bitter rival Gavin Pyper to go on and win the Independents Cup race.

Collard claimed Pyper forced him off, so he felt justice was done when Pyper's car wouldn't start for race two.
