FORMER Saints and England footballing star Matt Le Tissier was enjoying a bit of one-upmanship at Stoneham Golf Club last week.
He was among nearly 100 members to attend the 75th 'Oners' Supper which was founded in 1928 for those who had achieved a hole-in-one.
Le Tiss, who aced the second at Stoneham, received a framed certificate from club president David Arnold along with this year's other new 'Oners', Ken Scammel, Richard Munn, Brian Tubb, John Lyon and Brett Robinson.
Also present at the latest supper were Eric Pugh, at 89 the oldest 'Oner' in the club, Gordon Murray Fisher who scored his first ace in 1942 and Freddie Pearce, who has holed out in one ten times!
Any club member who has achieved a hole-in-one can play in the annual 'Oners' Salver, won this year by county player Andy Bow with a gross 70 (nett 70) off his scratch handicap.
Le Tissier joins some illustrious Stoneham 'Oners', among them the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII, who in 1931 achieved a hole-in-one and consented to be an honorary member.
Last week honorary membership was bestowed on John Sterling and David Barter, again the main speakers, for their contribution to the success of the 'Oners' Suppers over the years.
