LORD Romsey's brother has broken his silence about the IRA bomb that killed his grandfather Earl Mountbatten and his identical twin brother.
After more than two decades, Tim Knatchbull, pictured left, is preparing to tell his story in a book and TV documentary about the atrocity which stunned the nation.
The 39-year-old has previously refused to reveal his deepest feelings about the tragic events of August 27, 1979.
But now Tim, Prince Charles' godson, says he feels ready to speak about the terrorist attack off the west coast of Ireland - and consider forgiveness.
"I know it will be difficult and painful but ultimately it will be a crucial part of my lifelong search for peace, happiness and fulfilment," he said.
"I have no bitterness - none at all. I just want peace for Ireland and peace for myself." Tim had been on holiday with his family when the bomb smashed their fishing boat to pieces and ripped their lives apart.
The explosion off the coast of Country Sligo killed Earl Mountbatten, twin Nicky and a 15-year-old cabin boy.
His paternal grandmother, the Dowager Lady Brabourne, died from her injuries the next day. Tim was severely injured.
