Derek Kenway hit a match-winning maiden one-day hundred at the Rose Bowl yesterday - then dedicated it to his family and Hampshire Cricket.

Kenway, top, received several standing ovations on the day he made his first ton for Hampshire in either form of the game for nearly two years, less than 24 hours after making 94 against Somerset in the championship.

It helped Hawks to a total of 248 for 3 from 45 overs and a 99-run run win against Somerset Sabres with parents Keith and Geraldine, brother Richard and several friends looking on.

Kenway, 24, said: "Having a bad start to the season has hurt my family as well as myself because they really want me to do well.

"It was very important to me for them to be here and a load of my friends as well. Every shot and every run was important for me because of the faith the club have shown in me.

"To score my first one day hundred for Hampshire means a lot but it would be nice to start repaying the club and Paul Terry."

Kenway shared a 138-run partnership for the first wicket with John Crawley and, after adding 88 in 13 overs with Simon Katich, he was caught in the deep after two and a half hours at the crease.

An ever present in the championship this season, he was dropped after two National League outings, then recalled following his performance against Somerset in the four-day game.

Fareham-born Kenway added: "It was disappointing to be left out and frustrating to get out for 94 on Saturday but that made me more determined."
