A 12-year-old Romsey schoolboy, Carrick Masterman, has been awarded the British Model Soldier Society's Junior Society championship for the third consecutive year.
This is a huge achievement as it is the first time either the junior or the senior championships has been won by the same person for three years running.
Carrick Masterman, who lives in Viney Avenue, Romsey, was inspired to start model-making by his grandfather, John Cox. "We did an aeroplane and a couple of soldiers, then we did a tank and then a jeep."
Tanks from the first and second world wars and from the Korean war feature in Carrick's model-making.
His grandfather served in the Korean War, he says, and was awarded the British Empire Medal. He never actually received it, Carrick says, because the ship carrying it sank.
A pupil at Romsey School Carrick enjoys sport. He is a Saints supporter says his ambition is to be a GP, a fitness instructor or a footballer.
Formed in 1934, the British Model Soldier Society has a world wide membership. In 1969 with the introduction of plastic kits for figures and vehicles decided to introduce junior membership for interested youngsters.
The Society branches thought the UK all of which hold their own shows and competitions throughout the years, with the Society annual show and competitions taking place in London in April.
