SAINTS' FA Cup exploits may have had an effect on Southampton Running Club's 10K race with top local athletes missing from the top finishers on Sunday morning.
Victory salutes were left in the capable hands of Overton Harriers' Jamie Jones - formerley of Southampton Running Club - who managed to put four seconds between himself and second-placed Alasdair Ewing from Stubbington Green.
First home for the women in the popular race, commonly known as 'Run in the Park', was Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers' Lucy Elliott who beat Amanda Proctor from Basingstoke & MidHants AC and Havant AC's Kathryn Bailey.
"There were 340 entries and a much higher than usual per centage of drop-out so there may well have been a bit of a hangover from Southampton's FA Cup match," said a spokesman.
"The race was still a great success and the overall trend for running is continuing to improve."
Times were also down on the hilly three-lap course but that did not stop Hardley Runners taking the men's team title and Eastleigh RC picking up the women's crown.
