Milland Road allotments had a visit from Mayor Elect Jean Hammerton on Friday.
It was organised as part of Winchester City Council's Hidden Gardens weekend in June, which will raise money for charities Macmillan Cancer Trust and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Gardeners across Winchester and the district will be opening their gates to visitors to help raise money for the good causes.
Mrs Hammerton said: "I am not an expert gardener myself, but it's lovely to come up here. The weekend will raise money for excellent causes and enable people to visit areas of the city that they have never been to before."
The allotments, owned by the Highcliffe Allotments Society, will be open during the weekend of Saturday, June 7th, and Sunday, June 8th. As well as the usual fruit, vegetables and flowers, they are home to sheep, goats, geese, horses and even bees as the privately owned society is able to grant permission for members to keep livestock.
Entry to all gardens, allotments and tours is by advance purchase of the Hidden Gardens programme, £3 or £5 for family entry.
