POLICE have narrowed their investigation into the death of a motorcyclist on one of Hampshire's busiest roads, following a post-mortem.
It was initially thought that David Atherton, killed on the A31 at Ringwood, had fallen off his bike and been run over by two vehicles.
Now police say they are no longer searching for the driver of a Chrysler PT Cruiser Voyager. However, the driver of a black Honda, a 67-year-old man from the Fareham area, has been tracked following an appeal.
"Police have traced the driver of a black Honda, who hit the motorcyclist after he came off his bike," said a spokesman.
"The full circumstances of the collision are still being investigated." The accident occurred on Thursday as 29-year-old Mr Atherton and his brother were on their way to Dover to catch a cross-Channel ferry for a motorcycling holiday in France.
A police spokesman said: "Mr Atherton lost control of his machine and ended up on the carriageway. He was then struck by at least one other vehicle, which is believed to have driven over him."
The biker, of Bromham, Bedfordshire, was declared dead at the scene.
His brother was treated for severe shock.
Anyone who witnessed the accident or anyone with information is asked to call Lyndhurst traffic police on 0845 045 4545.
