The first train to call at Chandler's Ford station for 34 years is due to arrive on Sunday morning.
Councillors who helped to reinstate the service will greet the 9am from Romsey, the first in an hourly South West Trains shuttle service calling at Eastleigh and all stations to Southampton Central and Totton.
The last train to call at the station, near the Central Precinct, was the 2103 from Portsmouth to Romsey on May 3rd 1969.
Reconstruction - including new toilets, a footbridge from Hursley Road and parking for 50 cars and 40 bikes - is not due to be complete until September.
Hampshire County Council has put up £2m for the rebuilding and the Strategic Rail Authority is subsiding the service to the tune of £3.3m over three years.
Colin Davidovitz, a Chandler's Ford councillor who plans to board the debut train, said it was fortunate the Eastleigh-Romsey line had survived the Beeching axe of the 1960s, even if the station had not.
Mr Davidovitz predicted the shuttle would be popular.
"If people get into the habit of using the service, it will greatly relieve the congestion on local roads," he said.
"People along its route will have access to the entire UK rail network."
