Strictly speaking, this is a bit of a cheat in the Local Heroes section...Longview are Manchester-based, but the singer/songwriter and driving force is a Hampshire lad - so we figured he's local and, having landed a major record company contract, a hero in our books.
The Joiners is the first date of Longview's mammoth debut headlining tour - playing 46 dates over three months. The four-piece have already built up an enthusiastic fanbase from their support slots with the likes of Athlete, Goldrush, Easyworld and Gemma Hayes. In July, around the time their debut album is due for release, they will be taking to the NME stage at this year's T In The Park festival.
The hub of the quartet hails from Winchester - 23-year-old singer/guitarist Rob McVey. He left the city to study in Manchester in his late teens. There he met some fellow musicians in the Night & Day Caf: Aidan Banks (bass), Matt Dadds (drums) and Doug Morch (guitars). Longview were formed, caused a buzz in the music press and industry as a whole and signed to East West Records after only their fourth gig.
May 18, Joiners, Southampton. Performance: Tickets: Box office: 023 8022 5612
