HE MAY have a reputation for being un-PC, but comedian Jim Davidson will be promoting racial integration in his latest pantomime - by using a predominantly Oriental cast.
The Generation Game host will be entertaining family audiences for the second time in three years at The Mayflower, Southampton this Christmas.
Davidson, who played Dick Whittington at The Mayflower in 2001, takes the starring role in his own production company's lavish new production of Aladdin, titled Aladdin - The Adventure. He will also be directing the show.
But in a break with tradition, many of the key roles in the show will be taken by Oriental actors.
Masashi Fujimoto, famous for being the face of cult Channel 4 show Banzai, will play the Emperor of China, while members of the State Circus of China will be seen as his eight Ninja bodyguards. There will also be a chorus of 16 Chinese dancer acrobats.
The show, staged by Midas Theatre Productions, will also star A Touch of Frost actor John Lyons, Roger Kitter and inflatable family favourite Mr Blobby.
Fans of 70s rock music are also in for a treat. Rather than using a live band, the show will feature pre-recorded, specially arranged versions of songs by ELO played on a sound system which the company claims is the most advanced ever used in panto.
Casting for the star role of the Princess has yet to be announced.
You can see the show at The Mayflower, Southampton from December 21-February 1. Tickets are now on sale from the box office on 023 8071 1811.
