HAMPSHIRE Chief Constable Paul Kernaghan is in Iraq to lead a four-strong team to help rebuild the Iraqi police service.
He is expected to visit both Basra and Baghdad.
Mr Kernaghan, who is also the Association of Chief Police Officers' international portfolio holder, said: "The association exists to provide operational leadership and professional advice to ministers in relation to policing.
"My role will be to establish an accurate picture of the reality on the streets of Iraq and consider what practical support can be afforded."
Foreign office minister Mike O''Brien said: "The expertise of Chief Constable Kernaghan and his team will be invaluable in shaping the future of Iraqi law enforcement."
