A SOUTHAMPTON schoolboy is today fighting for his life after a road accident last night.
Police have today appealed for witnesses after the 13-year-old boy suffered life threatening head injuries when he was in the accident with a red Mazda car.
At 3.55pm yesterday the boy was crossing Lordshill Way with a friend near to the Pembrey underpass in Southampton when he was involved in an accident with the car being driven by a 52-year-old male from Lordswood.
The boy from Lordshill, who is a pupil at St George's Roman Catholic Secondary School, in Bassett, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital.
He was later transferred to the intensive therapy unit where he remained overnight in a serious but stable condition.
It is not yet known what caused the incident and police had to close the road for two hours while they investigated the scene.
Officers said the teenager had a comfortable night but remained in a serious but stable condition this morning at the hospital.
PC Neil Budden, who is leading the investigation, said: "We would like to appeal for anyone who saw the incident to contact us with any information they have."
No one else was involved in the accident and the driver of the car, who was heading towards the Lordshill centre, was uninjured.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact PC Neil Budden, of Operation Cullaville, on 0845 045 4545.
