IT WAS a case of happy families in the first round of the Matchams Kart Club Championship.

Father and son Kevin and Christopher Mathers from Alderholt carved up the first two heats of the Pro-Kart class between them.

Then the Aldwell family from Poole took over centre stage, with dad Chris taking heat three and son Darren clearing off for a decisive win next time out.

Clive Jackson from Bournemouth won all four heats in the 100 Clubman in which Southampton's Stewart Morris was well to the fore, taking third place behind Darren Civil from Waterlooville. Jackson took the final after early challenger Rob White spun out. Verwood's Mike Reynolds was also well up despite having to borrow a kart from his son after burning out a clutch.

The Cadets were the first to race, with a great battle between David Mack from Poole and James Raven from Portsmouth. Raven retired from the first heat then won the next two, meaning that he and Mack shared the front row for the final with Mack winning a desperately close battle.

The first win in the 125 Rotax class went to Daniel Alford from Brighton, then Wimborne's Alex Green took the next two and went on to win an extremely fast final, despite the close attentions of defending champion James Pardon from Sherbourne. Earlier heat winner, Daniel Alford, came home in third.
