Southampton youngsters, Tom Colling and Paul Janaway took first and second places in the Junior League Grand Prix event at Poole.
Racing in the under-14 age group, Janaway was unbeaten in his four qualifying races while Colling dropped just two points to earn a place in the A final.
Janaway drew the favoured inside starting gate in the final but was unable to make it count as Colling swept around him on the first bend.
Once in front the youngsters from Lordshill were not going to be caught. Janaway came under considerable pressure for second place from Exeter's Dominic McCrae.
On the third lap the Exeter rider dived up the inside of Janaway on the back straight but locked up on the third bend and fell in front of Janaway who had to take evasive action to miss him.
After two rounds Tom Colling leads the series with 50 points while Paul Janaway continues to pressure his teammate in second place overall on 38 points with Dominic McCrae in third on 36 points.
In the under-ten's age group, Richard Hayes made his debut in the Grand Prix series. Hayes scores a solid 11 points in his qualifying races to earn the fourth and final spot in the A final. Racing in only his second competitive meeting, Hayes could make no impression on the other three riders in the final, all of whom had at least three years' experience. Exeter's Thomas Reed took the chequered flag in first place from the Newport pair of Ben Mould and Mark Carmichael.
l Last Sunday the Saints were in action at Poole again, this time competing for British Premier League points.
The meeting produced an extremely close encounter up to heat 14, at which point the referee decided to make his mark on the meeting.
The score stood at Poole 65 Southampton 64, Saints' skipper Gavin Wheeler made a tremendous start from the least favoured gate four, but was pushed wide by former Southampton rider, Pete Young.
Wheeler chased and hassled Young for three and a half laps and on the last bend he made a determined bid to drive up the inside of the Poole rider.
Young maintained his ground and held off the challenge but the referee felt that Wheeler had used excessive force and excluded him, resulting in a 7-2 advantage to Poole. Another 7-2 advantage in the next heat after Colin Wheeler also suffered an exclusion put the match beyond Southampton who eventually went down 94-83.
Saints' man of the match was Lee Galley who picked up four race wins to top score with 17 points.
