THE Out of Town Caf is closing down after decades of satisfying the appetites of local people.

It will be a sad day for many when it finally closes on 16 May. So this week, as a final farewell, the Advertiser features photographs belonging to the daughter of Lily and Bert Folks, who owned the cafe until 1967.

Daughter Jill Jones just happened to be indulging in a trip down memory lane a couple of weeks ago when she and her new husband dropped in at the Out of Town.

She had no idea that the cafe was going to close within a few weeks and it came as something of a shock to her.

The place is riddled with memories for her and she thoroughly enjoyed having a look round for what, as it turned out, was the last time.

She said: "In those days our bathroom doubled as a toilet for the customer and I well remember the occasions when I was having a bath with someone trying the handle to get in."

In those days the cafe was known as The Croft. It was changed to Out of Town in 1972, when Leslie Young bought the eatery, because the family were fans of the well known television programme hosted by Jack Hargreaves.

His daughter, Margaret Davies, has decided to sell up, with great sadness, for family reasons.

The old building will be replaced by four homes.
