Eastleigh'S LINCS Centre is set to add another vital arm to its extensive range of services for young people.
Launched just one year ago, the information, advice and support centre in Leigh Road is now going to provide specialist provision for any young person suffering from or experiencing problems with substance abuse.
Centre manager Alan Smith said although substance abuse did not appear to be a major problem within the Eastleigh borough, there was sufficient evidence to suggest that some young people were in need of support.
Now, a fortnightly service will be available on a "drop in" or referral basis every other Tuesday afternoon between 2pm and 5pm starting on May 6.
Clinical specialist Viv Wright of the Substance Abuse Services for Southern Youth will provide the service and, in keeping with all other LINCS services, clients will be provided with confidential help and support for as long as needed.
Mr Smith said: "Whilst it was encouraging to note from the recent drugs audit that drug taking is not a major concern within the borough, we have had clients visiting us in the past who have needed guidance and support to help them deal with this problem. We very much welcome having Viv's expertise as part of our advisory team."
Viv Wright added: "It's good that LINCS has provided us with a base to deliver this service.
"We look forward to working alongside them and the other agencies involved in delivering vital support services for young people living and working within the Borough of Eastleigh."
