New Forest classrooms are buzzing at the moment thanks to a competition which offers the chance for schools to develop a grand natural feature for their grounds.
The Green Bee competition challenges youngsters to dream up environmental improvements for their school, such as an avenue of trees or a pond.
New Forest company New Milton Sand and Ballast, which has devised the competition, will then provide funds and assistance to make the green vision a reality.
The fun competition is open to Year 5 and 6 pupils in New Forest schools.
A panel, which will include Hampshire County Council executive member for education Councillor Don Allen and executive member for recreation and heritage Councillor John Waddington will judge the entries, which will then be short-listed to three projects before the winner is announced on Monday, June 30.
Managing director Michael Badcock had the idea for the competition. He said: "The title Green Bee was given to the competition as this really is an opportunity for business, education and environment to work together.
"Whatever is built at the winning school, whether it is an area of wetland or a nature trail, will not only enhance or improve the look of the school, but it will also be built to last.
"The project is so inspiring as it gives purpose to what the children are doing.
"The fact that their design could actually be used is a great incentive to think and plan in detail."
A Green Bee Entry form can be downloaded from New Milton Sand and Ballast's website - www.nmsb.co.uk - or requested on 023 8023 8001.
