A MOTORIST is being treated for life-threatening head injuries after his car crashed at an accident black spot outside Basingstoke.
The 20-year-old, who has not been named by police, was travelling towards Basingstoke from Overton on the B3400 at Scrapps Hill when his red Vauxhall Corsa apparently struck a verge and rolled over.
He was initially taken to Basingstoke hospital after the incident at 11.50pm on Friday, but was later transferred to the neurological unit of Southampton General Hospital.
Retired couple Peter and Betty Wilson, from Oakley, and Popley man Paul North died in another crash at Scrapps Hill on March 9 this year.
Following the fatal incident, Hampshire County Council workmen painted markings to outline the sides of the road and members of the council's safety engineering team visited the scene to see if any remedial measures might be necessary.
Traffic police are appealing for witnesses who saw the latest incident to come forward with information.
Police would also like to speak to anyone who saw an incident in Worting Road, Basingstoke, where a pedestrian was seriously injured just after 6.30pm on Saturday.
The 37-year-old Basingstoke housewife is in Basingstoke hospital with a fractured pelvis after a red J-registered Rover saloon collided with her as she was crossing the road.
The Rover motorist drove away from the scene without stopping.
A 19-year-old man from South Ham, Basingstoke, has been arrested in relation to this incident and released on bail pending further enquiries.
Anyone who witnessed either of these incidents, or saw a J-registered red Rover in Worting Road prior to the collision on Saturday, should contact Basingstoke traffic department on 0845 045 45 45.
