Paul Neilson is claiming the UK's longest hole in one after an astonishing ace at South Winchester's 394-yard fifth hole.
The Royal and Ancient handbook states that the record stands at 393 yards, set in 1980, and South Winchester Club manager Wayne Sheffield is currently awaiting a reply to confirm that Neilson's ace is a new record.
After driving his wonder-shot at the downhill hole, Neilson saw the group in front jumping up and down with arms in the air and thought they were angry with him.
The man who plays off scratch said: "My fear was that I'd hit the ball too well, upset the group in front and had overshot the green. To get down there and find I was down the hole for an albatross was unbelievable."
Neilson went on to card a seven under par 65 for an emphatic win in the club's Easter Cup.
There was another remarkable hole-in-one at Dibden where Heath Bland aced the 301-yard par four 18th.
It's the first time the feat has ever been achieved there and four-handicapper Bland did it with a three-wood.
The brother of Southampton's European Tour professional, Richard Bland, already holds the Dibden course record for an amateur of 64 - six under par.
