Even dark and dank weather will fail to make its mark on the Road Runners 10 series this season.
A record number of runners turned out for the opening event a fortnight ago in glorious sunshine but even more made the start line in event two at Ashurst in cold, blustery conditions.
More than 300 regular club runners completed the four-and-a-half mile cross country course - set out by Totton Running Club members - and they were led home by Team Solent's Angus Maclean who forced New Forest's Lee Rodriguez into second.
Maclean is gearing himself up for the track season but is keen to keep distance in his legs with the occasional appearance in the popular RR10 series.
"I try and do these during the summer to keep up my endurance training," said Maclean who will be taking part in a British Milers Club 3k race on Bank Holiday Monday.
Southampton City's Karen Rushton was the first woman over the line but the event marked a milestone for another lady.
Current women's title holder Anthea Waters of New Forest Runners continued her recovery following a serious road traffic accident before Christmas to take part.
She came home in an unaccustomed 17th place and is already looking to step up the pace.
"I have had a lot of time on my hands and have been training for an hour or hour-and-a-half. I just must have been running slowly." she said. "I didn't expect to win but I would like to have been in the top seven - not 17th."
New Forest Runners are on top of the men's team table after two races and Winchester & District AC's women head their section.
