EIGHTIES heart-throb Paul Young will be showcasing a new and maturer sound in Hampshire next month.
The singer, who dominated British charts in the mid-eighties, brings his UK tour to The Anvil, Basingstoke, on Saturday, May 31, and promises a mix of old classics and new material.
Blessed with one of the most distinctive voices of his generation, the soulful singer began his solo career in spectacular style, scoring a number one hit with his first single, 1983s Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home).
He followed it up with six more top ten singles, including Come Back and Stay, Love of the Common People, Everytime You Go Away, and Senza Una Donna (Without a Woman), his 1991 collaboration with Zucchero.
The 47-year-old began his musical career as a bassist with Kat Kool and the Kool Kats.
He then moved to north London's Streetband, who had a minor hit in 1978 with Toast/Hold On, before leaving to form soul revivalists The Q-Tips.
Since releasing his debut solo album No Parlez, he has continued to write and perform around the world.
He also regularly performs with his very own 'pub band', Los Pacominos, who are frequent visitors to Southampton.
The show starts at 8pm. Tickets priced £15.50 from 01256 844244.
