ALMOST 15,000 more students have applied to start higher education courses in the UK this autumn compared to the same time last year.
Figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) show that 393,750 - a rise of 14,864 (3.9 per cent) on last year - have applied for full-time undergraduate courses.
The numbers also show 4.6 per cent more women have applied, compared to a 3.1 per cent increase in the number of men.
There has been a 2.2 per cent rise in the number of under-21 applicants, a 7.9 per cent increase in the 21-24 age group and 6.7 per cent in the 25 years and over group.
