PUPILS at Knights Enham Infant School had a big surprise when they returned after the school holidays - staff from DLO Andover had completed a playground makeover!
As part of the Defence Logistics Organisation's commitment to help the community, Guided Weapons Systems Support (GWSS) integrated project team completed the final phase of the works.
The team, along with parents and teachers, raised more than £2,000 to provide the materials for the ambitious project, which took placing during the Easter break. In all, 54 people dug, scraped, painted, mowed, planted and tidied the school grounds over three days.
The main focus for improvement was the school's internal courtyard, a new sandpit with cover, a revamped pond changed into a herb garden and the creation of play and quiet areas.
The team also refreshed the work done at the school last year.
Major Toby Harden, one of the project organisers, said: "The project has been a great success and a clear demonstration of what can be achieved by team working." The team thanked Travis Perkins for its generous support.
The DLO is planning more community projects, in conjunction with Test Valley Borough Council.
