GILBERT and Sullivan's Princess Ida is given a 1950s makeover in a forthcoming production by Southampton Operatic Society.
The acclaimed local group, who will be staging the show at the Nuffield Theatre from June 24-28, have turned warriors into members of rival biker gangs. The story revolves around a headstrong princess who turns her back on royal duty to set up a women's university. Her sweetheart, Prince Hilarion, is determined to win her back - but must face the oafish might of her three brothers.
