THEIR hit singles might be unknown to anyone under 40, but no one is likely to forget their name.

Sixties stars Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich will be reminding music fans how they scaled the British charts in a nostalgia tour also featuring The Searchers, Wayne Fontana and Barry Ryan.

The Salisbury-based band were one of the most successful home-grown bands of the late 60s, with a number one, Legend of Xanadu - famous for featuring the sound of a cracking whip - and seven other top ten hits, including Hold Tight, Zabadak! and the suggestive Bend It.

The Solid Silver 60s Show, which comes to Portsmouth Guildhall on May 16 as part of a 69-date tour, features favourite hits being played by the original hit-makers.

As well as classic Dave Dee numbers, the show includes The Searchers' Needles and Pins and Don't Throw Your Love Away, Wayne Fontana's Game of Love and Um Um Um Um Um Um and Barry Ryan's Eloise.

The Searchers have been in the music business for 40 years and emerged in the heady days of the Merseybeat scene, while Wayne Fontana formed his band The Mindbenders in 1962.

Barry Ryan and his twin brother Paul had a string of hits in the late 60s, but he remains best known for his worldwide smash Eloise.

The show starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost from £13.50. Box office: 023 9282 4355.
