YOUNG cricket star Mark Holmes was bowled over to learn he had been selected to tour the West Indies.
Mark, 15, of Bagwich Lane, Rookley, is playing for the West of England under 15s during their tour of the Caribbean this month.
He said: "I was in bed when my dad told me the news and I just jumped out. Normally I struggle to get out up, but not that day."
Fast bowler Mark, who attends Christchurch Cricket Academy, is playing against some of the top youngsters in the world, starting with a clash against Trinidad under 15s.
Parents Sue and Richard, sister Sarah, 11, and his grandparents are making the trip with him.
Sue said: "We will not see much of Mark except on the pitch.
"They are out there to do a job. This is not a holiday with the family. When he is not playing he will be training in the mornings."
Mark has risen through the West of England ranks after shining at Ventnor, Isle of Wight and Hampshire cricket teams.
"When I heard that the team would be touring the West Indies I raised my game for every match. I really wanted to go. I have dreamed about this," he said.
"Eventually I hope to be accepted at the Hampshire academy and prove what I can do," said Mark.
"I am aiming for a career in the game."
