Glenn Miller may have disappeared without trace, but the unmistakable Miller sound lives on.
That Big Band sound and the spirit of the 1940s will be alive and kicking at the Anvil on Sunday. It was an era before teddy boys and teenagers, when everyone seemed to be middle-aged with stiff upper lips and beautiful manners - or is that just exposure to too many old movies.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK was formed in 1988 and adheres to Miller's on-stage line-up: leader, five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, a three-piece rhythm section plus male and female vocalist.
The orchestra is led by Ray McVay and promises a repertoire to suit all tastes, featuring musicians who have worked with the orchestras of Benny Goodman, Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Frank Sinatra.
Numbers by Gershwin and Louis Armstrong will complement the Glenn Miller favourites, which naturally include In The Mood and Moonlight Serenade. Great stuff!
April 27, The Anvil, Basingstoke. Performance: 7.30pm Tickets: from £13.50 Box office: 01256 844244
